Home Dedications
On November 8, 2008, Habitat for Humanity Sarasota dedicated the completion of two Habitat’s “green” homes.

The 1368 21st Street home recently won two AURORA Awards for energy efficiency and was certified as a Florida Green Home by the Florida Green Building Coalition. This Habitat home ranked in the top 5 Green houses in Florida. It was also recognized as Florida Friendly by Florida Yards and Neighborhoods through the University of Florida’s IFAS Extension Program and designated as a BuildSmart home by Florida Power and Light. BuildSmart homes save up to 30% on energy bills.

A total of seven homes will be built using the same “green” technology at Habitat’s Central Avenue site. New Homeowners:

FAIRY GODMOTHERS RAISING THE WALLS FOR HABITAT SARASOTA

Habitat for Humanity Sarasota is pleased to announce that 100 of Sarasota’s most dynamic women have joined together as Fairy Godmothers and contributed $100,000 to sponsor a 3-bedroom home at Jordan’s Crossing. The home, named Cinderella’s Castle by the project’s founders—Eileen Curd, Mary Forte, Katie Moulton, Sandy Malamud, and Charlene Wolff—will be built by women volunteers.

Cinderella’s Castle began to take shape on October 25, 2008 when the first exterior walls were raised. Habitat for Humanity Sarasota Executive Director, Tony Souza, lead a brief ceremony during which all 100 Fairy Godmothers  were thanked for donating their financial support and time on the construction site. The future owner of Cinderella’s Castle, Karen Klinebriel, help raised the walls on the home of her dreams.
